Following the release of her critically acclaimed album Orange Skies, Sophie Toyne is drawing attention to a standout track, The Middle.

This song is a cleverly crafted country cover of the iconic 90s hit by US rock band Jimmy Eat World, featuring the airy feel that defined her debut work.

Sophie Toyne's new album is called 'The Middle'

The album’s success built upon the momentum of previous singles:

  • The Sharon O’Neill-penned Service of Mine was a massive hit, leading to an appearance on New Zealand’s Seven Sharp and accumulating over 113,000 Spotify streams and 23,000 YouTube streams, alongside radio play across Australia and New Zealand.
  • The legendary Kiwi producer Dick Le Fort’s track, Fly Like an Eagle, also achieved widespread radio play in both countries, helping spearhead the album’s release.

Career milestones and awards success

The album release caps off a period of rolling success for the artist.

The 16-year-old Whanganui High School student recently enjoyed success at the NZ Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year event, intermediate section for 14- to 18-year-olds at the Baycourt Community and Arts Centre in Tauranga, further cementing her status as a rising star in Australasian country music, following a strong showing in January in Tamworth, Australia’s country music capital & topped off by winning the principals award at Whanganui High School recognising her success in music.

This bright star is off to a brilliant future in the music scene and is one to watch.
