Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has had his firearms and shotgun licence revoked following a security review by the Metropolitan Police, marking another setback for the scandal-hit former Duke of York.
The 65-year-old, a long-time shooting enthusiast who previously hosted hunts at royal estates, was visited by specialist firearms officers at Royal Lodge in Windsor in November. His certificate was voluntarily surrendered, with police declining further comment.
While Andrew’s guns were not seized, strict controls were reportedly imposed on storage and access, and the loss of his licence means he can no longer use or transport firearms except under expert supervision.
The move follows broader security concerns and coincides with his expected departure from Royal Lodge, with reports suggesting a relocation to a smaller property on the King’s Sandringham estate—changes that typically trigger licence reassessments.
The decision comes amid renewed scrutiny over claims linked to Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre, which Andrew has repeatedly denied. Earlier this month, the Met confirmed it would take no further action after an assessment found no additional evidence of criminal misconduct, a decision criticised by Giuffre’s family.

Would we ever get that lucky?
