Canadian billionaire takes major stake in legacy media company NZME

James Grenon news

Auckland-based Canadian billionaire James Grenon has acquired a 9.3% stake in NZME, the owner of legacy media outlets the New Zealand Herald, Newstalk ZB and BusinessDesk, fuelling speculation about potential shifts in editorial direction.

Grenon, the founder of Tom Capital Management, was previously linked to alternative news ventures The Centrist and NZNE (New Zealand News Essentials).

While Grenon insists his NZME investment is purely financial, reports suggest some wealthy investors may be considering a larger stake or even privatisation.

  1. Knock yourself out mate. I still won’t partake in any corporate government legacy mainstream media propaganda.

  2. NZME investment is purely financial?
Either that dude is thick as a brick or really wants to do good for the NZ people.
We’ll see (but we never forget).

  3. After the constant barrage of bullmanure in recent years, it’s logical to assume that any and all media is always propaganda until proven otherwise.
