ACT unveils immigration overhaul with tougher deportation and welfare rules

The ACT Party has announced a major immigration policy package aimed at tightening enforcement, strengthening visa requirements, and ensuring migrants contribute more directly to New Zealand’s infrastructure and economy.

ACT leader David Seymour said the policy was designed to restore public confidence in the immigration system while maintaining New Zealand’s identity as a nation built by settlers.

Under ACT’s proposed six-point plan, resident visa holders convicted of serious crimes carrying sentences of 10 years or more could face deportation regardless of how long they have lived in New Zealand. The party also wants annual reviews of skilled visa categories to ensure they continue meeting genuine labour shortages, alongside stricter English language standards for Accredited Employer Work Visa applicants.

ACT is also proposing a five-year stand-down period before new residence class visa holders can access income-tested welfare benefits such as jobseeker support or accommodation supplements. Temporary work visa holders would face a new $6 per day infrastructure levy, which the party says could raise about $80 million annually to help fund public services and infrastructure pressures linked to population growth.

The policy package also targets immigration enforcement, with ACT proposing a dedicated overstayer enforcement unit within Immigration New Zealand. Companies operating digital work platforms such as Uber and DoorDash would be required to verify workers’ immigration status, while employers found helping people overstay visas could lose accreditation. Seymour said the changes would help ensure immigration “works for New Zealand” by focusing on skilled workers who contribute to the country and respect democratic values.

  1. Don’t worry David, with many new migrants coming from India, many people here are going to de-port themselves…like they already are… as NZ is ground to dust by more unwanted immigration, with you lot thinking you can replace us as we leave for better living conditions… elsewhere as NZ turns into the next banana republic… you won’t need these policies.. you are about to flood the country with so many that we cannot handle and this “increase the population” is a failed old economic policy hoping to increase some obsure thing like GDP…when the problem is internal, rubbish governments successively ruining this counry’s future… it has none if this keeps up…and you have just lost so many voters… they are moving overseas as fast as they can…. of their own accord…

  2. New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour was awarded Ukraine’s Order of Merit (Third Class) in August 2025 by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It is one of Ukraine’s highest civilian honors, recognizing his support for Ukrainian sovereignty, humanitarian efforts, and promotion of Ukraine.

  3. 5 years before claiming benefits is way to short it should 30 years or more based on what it costs the English to support immigrants who over a coarse of a lifetime are a huge net negative & extract more than they provide while sending money back to their country of origin.Numerous youtube channels cover this & show government sats stating it

  4. ACT campaigned on reducing bureaucrats cutting red tape reducing waste they haven’t achieved anything.
They say what we want to hear meanwhile full steam ahead with agenda 2030.
They are not as bad as the loony left thou.

  5. That might be a good idea however, Mew Zealand”s birthrate has plummeted so far we are not even replacing ourselves. I suppose the government could launch an 2 year enquiry as to why men are nolonger interested in creating out the gate liabilities if a relationship goes south. However in just 2 years time there will be a further drop in babies, further drop in school roles, national population departing NZ for good.

Government created and destroyed property rights by designing a court that takes no notice of who owned or paid for possessions. That isn’t family. Its fraud. Men are nolonger interested in being financially destroyed by some very nasty woman who only want someone to hand over a lifetime work. Ofden denial of a fathers relationship to secure valuable assets and income. That is the system now.

Address these issues with firm, safe legislation. People own what they paid for. Otherwise New Zealands only other two choices is replacement by immigration or further decline.

How long have we got? It will be just a few short years when the effects will be just too severe to reverse.

Statistics and trends don’t lie. Humans do.

    • To be fair I think the decline in birth rates is linked more to the sheer cost of housing. Who in their right mind would bring a child into this world right now? If I had my time again I probably wouldn’t.

With respect to your beef with nasty women……

Consider the 9 months a woman incubates your child, the next year breastfeeding, the loss of career and superannuation opportunities. Never mind the dinners, the housework, school runs blah blah blah, or the unwanted sexual advances, the criticism about how we look when we’re exhausted, putting up with men who let themselves go, have questionable hygiene, snore, expensive stupid hobbies like car racing and motorbikes…….yeah it goes both ways buddy.

Anyway my husband seems to “get” MOST of that stuff and respects me for it so he’s generally pretty happy. Remember it takes compromise on BOTH parts to create a successful and happy relationship. My ex husband didn’t manage to realise this so sorught greener pastures……but ultimately what he got was someone who would go along with what HE wanted ……until she won’t. Some people never learn.

Try and not of self reflection…..maybe it’s you and not “her”. Start with a mirror…….

  6. ACT is an irrelevant political party propping up a fake democracy which only works for the benefit of the political parties. None of political parties represent the people.

  7. Nothing about reducing immigration. Just a lot of strengthening measures to ensure integration and/or more enforcement of measures which could, or should , but won’t stop the massive corruption and social disruption this country has coming in the near future.
    ACT will change nothing.

  8. Lipstick on their immigration pig, a clumsy attempt to silence peoples outrage over the India deal that will see NZ flooded with cheap, pliable labour, that they no doubt hope will, in time, vote for the globalists as its in their self interest. Meantime the so called “settlers” who founded this country including my family will pack up and leave for good. Utter disgrace what these scheming mainstream party’s have done to this once wonderful country and its people. All in the name of GREED.
