Auckland Council has voted 18–5 in favour of a new housing intensification plan that will allow 10–15 storey high rises to be built around public transport hubs, replacing the previous proposal focused on three-storey housing across the city.
The plan, known as ‘Plan Change 120’, responds to RMA Reform Minister Chris Bishop’s directive to allocate up to two million new homes in Auckland while also downzoning hazard-prone areas.
Critics argue the policy fails to protect special character areas and lacks adequate public consultation, but a last-minute bid to delay the decision was rejected.

Why does New Zealand always has to do things that have proven not to work one way or the other. High tower living socially always ends up a disaster. But of course Towers need to be built for the 2 minute cities that can hold the numbers projected who will be living in them.
