Auckland Hospital apologises after 25 patients given false STI results

Twenty-five patients at Auckland City Hospital were wrongly told they had a sexually transmitted infection due to contaminated lab processing between 23 May and 4 June, with six patients still unaware of the error.

The issue, affecting at least some obstetrics and gynaecology patients, was uncovered after clinical doubts led to a wider review, revealing four faulty test batches.

Health NZ has moved the testing to different equipment and is investigating the root cause.

A hospital spokesman apologised for the distress caused, confirming that no patients were incorrectly told they were STI-free.

  1. Maybe stop wantonly whoring around and you won’t get into these types of situations 🤷🏼‍♂️
