China conducts rare submarine-launched ballistic missile test

Beijing said the move was not aimed at any particular country, dismissing accusations of escalation.

A Chinese nuclear submarine launched a long-range ballistic missile with a dummy warhead into the Pacific Ocean on Monday, marking the first test of the kind since 2024.

“This test launch is a routine part of the Chinese PLA Navy’s annual training,” Navy spokesman Wang Xuemeng said in a statement. “The Chinese side notified relevant countries in advance.”

“This test launch complies with international law and international practice and is not directed at any specific country or target,” Wang added.

The spokesman said the missile “landed precisely within the designated waters.” CNN, citing a regional source, reported that it landed near the exclusive economic zone of either Kiribati or Tuvalu.

The US, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan condemned the test as a dangerous escalation. US State Department spokesman Thomas Pigott said “Beijing’s rapid and opaque nuclear weapons buildup is of great concern to the region and the world.” Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong accused China of destabilizing the region, describing its military activities as “lacking in transparency and reassurance.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning pushed back against the criticism, saying the test was conducted in “a safe, standard and professional manner.” She urged all countries to “not read too much into it.”

The US and China have exchanged warm gestures in recent months. US President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing in May during a visit that both sides said was cordial. Trump stated on Monday that he expects Xi to visit the US in late September. Xi earlier congratulated Trump on the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.

Nevertheless, tensions have persisted. In May, the US imposed new sanctions on Chinese oil companies allegedly involved in trade with Iran and blacklisted another batch of entities the following month that it accused of supplying weapons to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. China responded by sanctioning ten US companies involved in the defense, aerospace, and rare-earth mining sectors.

China has also condemned the US-Israel war against Iran and the US energy blockade of Cuba as violations of international law.

  1. ….comes right on the heels of the NZ / Australian Defence Pact with several pacific Neighbours….
Last time the Chinese showed-up in the Tasman Sea after a trade deal was agreed to in the South Pacific that excluded China.
Unless New Zealand can convert to Armed Neutrality and make adjustments to accommodate the same economically, militarily and socially, World War Three will expand to the South Pacific Island Nations.
Look for a possible attack in mid-2027.
In the meantime, we have no semi-auto weapons to fight with on a Territorial Militia Force basis….as communist deceiver Jabby took the firearms as the result of a Mossad Op as noted below-

  2. “Beijing’s rapid and opaque nuclear weapons buildup is of great concern to the region and the world.”

Whereas sending copious amounts of weapons to Ukraine, to wage an increasingly terrorist war, against the worlds most significantly nuclear armed nation, is of no concern to the world at all, right?

    • The Ukraine matter is an expansion of NATO towards Russia. No NATO in Ukraine as agreed with Russia many years ago is what Russia seeks.

Imagine if Canada decided to allow the 11 full members BRICS, Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia to set up shop.

What do you think the US woukd do? Exactly what Russia is doing. To keep that buffer zone.

What is war all about? Control of another countries resources. Who sells to whom, at what price and I want some of that transaction. Can’t have countries buying oil without the petro dollar. Can’t let those guys interfere with our profits.

It’s about time, we United States of America wakes up and realises they are no longer leaders in technology, manufacturing. Far too invested in turning things like medical insurance, lawsuits, share markets, lending money then changing intrest rate. bureaucracy, gun culture, vaccines. Over the top regulations.

Except for the gun culture, New Zealand is far to regulated. Nut case people like department heads who destroy peoples careers just because they want to force people to accept Maori culture as part of thier work

Business in New Zealand is a shambles. Tax for this, levy for that, a fee for something, endless regulations, higher court decisions that result in more regulation. Oh you want a passport from the taxed paid government? There’s an extra fee for that. Ongoing application fees for licensing, Government funded, yet court fees apply. Government is more that government. It is a business.
