Deputy Commissioner Jevon McSkimming, the second-highest-ranking police officer in New Zealand, is on leave amid dual investigations by the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) and New Zealand Police.
The nature of the allegations remains undisclosed, with both authorities refraining from comment while the inquiries are active.
McSkimming, a pivotal figure in the police executive, has been on leave for several weeks. He was a finalist for the Police Commissioner role but was passed over in favour of Richard Chambers last month. The investigations are considered significant given McSkimming’s statutory role, which grants him constitutional independence to oversee the Police Commissioner or assume office if needed.
McSkimming’s 27-year career includes frontline roles across the country and leadership positions within Police National Headquarters, where he played a key role in shaping strategy and operations. His appointment as Deputy Commissioner in 2023 was recommended by then-Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.
Police Minister Mark Mitchell and IPCA officials have both declined to comment further while the investigations proceed.
They are all scum, every last one of them.
Sounds serious
