EU ‘in a state of disintegration’ – Hungarian PM

The European Union is disintegrating, says Viktor Orban

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has warned that the European Union is entering a phase of disintegration, arguing that decisions made in Brussels are increasingly ignored by member states.

Speaking to media, Orban said the bloc is coming apart as its bureaucracy pushes what he described as “imperial ambitions” while failing to ensure its policies are actually implemented.

“The European Union today is in a state of disintegration,” he said, adding that laws and decisions agreed in Brussels are often not carried out and that non-compliance tends to spread from one country to another.

Orban also said Europe is shifting toward a war-based economic model, driven by long-term political and economic decline in Western Europe that he claims began in the mid-2000s and worsened after the financial crisis.

He argued that the EU’s approach to the Ukraine conflict reflects this mindset and has damaged competitiveness by driving up energy costs and undermining industry.

According to Orban, Europe is now divided into “the war camp and the peace camp,” with Brussels leading the former while Hungary positions itself firmly in the latter, insisting that “Brussels wants war; Hungary wants peace.”
