Government loosens residency rules for foreign workers

NZ residency news

The Government has announced major changes to the Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa, easing requirements and creating two new residency pathways for skilled workers and tradespeople.

The changes reduce the amount of local work experience needed from three years to two, remove the higher wage threshold, and grant more points to international students graduating from New Zealand universities.

From August 2026, migrants will only need to show they are paid at or above the median wage to qualify. While promoted as part of the “Going for Growth” programme to support businesses, critics argue the measures open the floodgates to more migrant workers, putting additional strain on local job seekers and resources.

  1. putting additional strain on local job seekers and resources?
Mate had a job doing certain fiber mainenance/call-outs. Was made ‘redundant’ during covid ’cause he wasn’t falling for the bio-weaponised mRNA duress, now having been replaced with an immigrant with 5 kids and wider family, nice call-out tech to be fair, but why is me mate still unemployed?

  2. This is insane!! There are no fu***en jobs out there as it is. The economy is f***ed! Companies closing and liquidating everywhere! Every single tradesman or company I know has little or no work!!! What the f*** is the government doing??

  3. Sounds like the government is desperate for immigrants and the smart educated and entrepreneurial immigrants have figured out NZ is not an attractive proposition, and is not likely to become one the way it’s going.

  4. Wouldn’t consider reduced costs to retrain their fellow New Zealanders or help those who find the cost/time for study unmanageable, right? Selling us out, once again so the big end of town can have its uninterrupted flow of comparatively cheap labour.

  5. Kalergi in action.
    Conspiracy theory???
See UK, Australia, Europe – mass migration to cause massive unrest and anarchy whilst they breed en mass and remove the white races!.
Exactly what the UN / WEF and world bankers want.
They then impose hard line restrictions and controls to construct their new world order – CBDC, digital “passports”, mass surveillance, centralising data collection
See .nz stats dept ranting about no need for census as they will have all your info anyway.
get ready for you did not get your 23rd booster, used your one piece of meat this month, drove more than 3 km = so now your access to your money will be stopped and you cant buy food UNLESS you turn up for your 23rd booster cause you are not dead yet!
    Think this is not happening??
    Think again!
Data centres built and run by amazon, populated by microsoft with palantir software are already in action and your medical records are already stored / hosted in them – next is your banking info led by ASB and ANZ WEF PUPPETS
Collins digital ID IS PART OF IT – – and where is luxon and co = sucking up to the world bank and imf carrying on from robertson and the homo radicals who hate white christians – Bolsheviks anyone??
Dont forget the nz govt wef puppets have just opened the doors to mass immigration – like europe, scandinavia uk, canada – under the guise of “skilled labour”
The truth is it is the ongoing attack on predominantly white christians. – bolshevicks anyone?????
