The Government has announced a $70 million investment package aimed at revitalising New Zealand’s events and tourism sector, with Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston saying it will drive jobs, regional growth, and international competitiveness.
The package includes a $40m Events Attraction Fund to secure large-scale international acts from 2026, $10m for existing events, $10m for regional tourism campaigns, and up to $10m for infrastructure such as cycle trails.
Upston highlighted that events like concerts generate millions for local economies, and this funding will help New Zealand compete with Australia for top acts while encouraging both domestic and international tourism. The initiative is part of the Coalition Government’s Q3 Action Plan and is expected to roll out over the next two years, with further announcements due by the end of 2025.

Hmmmm, who would’ve thought that shutting down the country for a few years would have caused such damage? Clearly not the 6th Labour Government
One of the problems with locking a country down for two years is that it puts a lot of foreigners off the idea of visiting.
Woke nanny states will probably become even more unpopular in the foreseeable future.
Waste of money. NZ is way expensive to live as well as visit as a tourist. Japan is cheaper to visit and stay compared to NZ.
The world is sliding into a protracted recession or worse
Good luck on that
The government has no choice but to quickly return tax dollars back into circulation to starve off an offical depression. Not withstanding the whole country is in poverty, Wellington was smashed. They are fully aware there is zero chance of a recovery before campaigning starts next year. A lot of low ranked MP’s will be hearing those words. “The country thanks you for your service,”
Luxon is going to be thrown out of office and step into a nice corporate job. Probably in banking. If nasty Collings gets the PM job, National will loose even more polling.
New Zealnd is short of tens of thousands of people. Fix that and your problems will melt away.
I used to go to intermediate school with Cathy Colins, she ain’t no natural leader that I can tell you, although she is a very hard worker. In fact, she’s the only one who did any work in our class!
