Christchurch Airport has embarked on a $300 million solar farm project, touted as the largest in the country.
Officials, including Energy Minister Simeon Brown, celebrated the milestone today with a sod-turning photo opportunity.
Spanning 230 hectares and featuring 300,000 solar panels, the farm is expected to power around 36,000 homes.
However, with the unpredictable nature of solar energy and the enormous financial burden, the project raises concerns about whether this is just another costly experiment in the name of “green energy.”
Proponents, including the airport’s chief executive Justin Watson, claim the solar farm will provide the green energy needed to “decarbonise” the aviation industry, as the government pushes for more renewable energy investments.
Christchurch airport, 75% owned by corporate Christchurch City Council via its “investment” arm CCHL and 25% by the corporate state. With these corporates track record of “thrift and bang for buck”, what could possibly go wrong?
Oh yeah, green energy hype, grift, con, scam and decarbonization bullshit.
this is a joke right or is this the blackrock investment ffs
What a waste of money. Virtue signaling simps. And an environmental disaster around the corner for later to clean up.
Get some real solutions with more bang for you buck.
