Kiri Allan resigns after being caught drink driving last night

Kiri Allan news

The former Cabinet Minister was involved in a car accident on Wellington’s Evan’s Bay Parade last night.

Allan has been charged with careless use of a motor vehicle and refusing to accompany a police officer. Her car crashed into a ute around 9pm.

She will appear in court on the charges at a later date.

An infringement notice was also issued for excess breath alcohol between 250 and 400mcg.

Statement of Prime Minister Chris Hipkins

Shortly after 9.00pm last night Kiri Allan was involved in a car crash on Evans Bay Parade in Wellington.

She was taken into custody and held in the Wellington Central Police station. She was released around 1.00am this morning.

She has been charged with reckless driving and resisting arrest.

She also returned a breath test over the legal limit but at a level considered an infringement offence. Police have not pressed charges in relation to that.

While her alleged actions are inexcusable, I’ve been advised she was experiencing extreme emotional distress at the time of the incident. Her recent personal struggles with mental health have been well documented and it appears some of those issues came to a head yesterday.

I have spoken with her first thing this morning and advised her I do not believe she’s in a fit state to hold a Ministerial warrant.

I believe it’s also untenable for a Justice Minister to be charged with criminal offending.

Kiri agrees, and she’s advised me she wishes to resign all her portfolios immediately, is heading home, and taking time to consider her future in politics. I’ve accepted that resignation.

I recently provided Kiri the opportunity to address her mental health issues. After taking some time out I believed she was okay and was assured by her she was.

Last night’s incident is evidence there are not always quick fixes when it comes to mental health, and the best thing for Kiri right now is to focus on her whanau and her wellbeing away from Parliament.

I don’t provide this detail to diminish her actions, they were indefensible, but to provide context for the distressed circumstances she found herself in when the incident occurred.

I will confirm the reallocation of her portfolios later today.

  1. Muh mental health 😱

Just shut up Chippy. She’s a (literally) drunk with power imbecile. Could have killed someone.

Kirk – Don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya 👋🖕

  2. She’s only one of the dozens of mental cases down in the barnyard. Allen you don’t get a free pass on playing the crazy card, these were your choices, you chose to drink and drive, you endangered the lives of everyone on the road with you at that time, and then you resisted when the cops wanted to haul your criminal a**e off to the cop station. Should we all be rallying around the Auckland shooter because of his mental health issues, maybe he had to much on his plate, maybe he was feeling the pressure. His weapon of choice was a gun, yours was a car. Nobody gets to be your fall guy, this is all you. In the future remember that crazy and drinking and driving don’t mix. Shame on you.

  3. How is it that labour’s are still polling at a comparable level to national/act? Especially given their incredibly shallow pool of “talent”. What a total shit show. Not only that, but how quickly we forget the covid atrocities commitment by chippy and co.

    • Could it be that polls are polling only the people that want to answer that s*?
Let’s put it to those “representatives= public servants’: you might try to pervert elections: we are not quite there as the USA.

    • If stooges (i.e. welfare recipients) are paid off by “social’ agendas, those stooges vote for their ‘dependency on the rest of producing society’. Yeah, vote for cretins who never worked a decent day in their life.
Problem occurs if that existence needs real feeding.
This ‘day and age’ does not kindly support any nincompoops who think their woke BS will be carried by the PEOPLE of New Zealand.

      Time’s up!!!

    • Because it’s all WWE kayfabe, elections are wrestlemania.

The major parties are all owned by the same people (just look at Luxon ALREADY cosying up to big pharma, promising to open up GM food etc). The winners and losers are agreed to behind closed doors months in advance of any vote, the mockingbirds are given their scripts to read and their polls to squawk over, to make the soap opera seem more believable.

The reality is there is no election happening, they’re just swapping out the actors. That’s why there is zero interest or enthusiasm for this election. The public, even the ones unaware and fast asleep, can still sense the futility in it, the pointlessness of the whole show.

      Fake bull****, all of it

    • If ya always do what you always do …. ya always gunna get what ya always got!!!
She did what she always does and got more than she bargained for!!!
      Bam!!! Karma’s a b****.
As for the dickheads go hard!!! cos at least the “Dickheads are being real!!
And not WOKE like some anonymous twat!!

    • So you are saying she’d go back to flipping burgers at KFC where she started before she got her privileged uni degree? Double gherkin with that!

  4. Just over the DUI limit! How convenient.
Was originally stated as resisting arrest but oh conveniently it was later stated as ” refusing to accompany” which is a lesser charge
    to resisting! How convenient
AND originally Reckless Driving now said to be a lesser charge! How convenient
And was there a drugs test done??? Doesnt sound like it!! How convenient given the company she keeps in Parliament

    • Yep if it was one of us it would be an entirely different story…this is precisely why I have no respect left for govt, police and the judiciary in this banana republic….

  5. Glad this happened, as I suspect that Labour was lining her up to be the DPM soonish and later, as the PM!
We can do without her ilk, and the two mainstream political parties.
Fed up with the drama, theatrics, and varied facets of pathological psychopathy that is geared to globalist politics at our expense, especially the cost of gun registration, gun restrictions, cost of a gun licence, and the total tyrannical enforcement of the ‘Christchurch Call’ with ‘:15 Minute Cities’,
ALL of this supported,..of course, by the likes of Nazi supporter Klaus Schwab, George Soros, Bill Gates, Henry Kissinger, ‘Sniffy’ Biden, Jabcinda Ardern, Volodomir Zelenskyy…and the rest of the Zionist-supporting eugenists.
NOW… I understand why political candidate Michael Hansen of Christchurch makes perfect sense in a futuristic kind of way…
    BAWHAWHAWHAWHAWHA!!!!!
