The man charged with murdering Nelson police officer Lyn Fleming has been named as 32-year-old Hayden Donald Jason Tasker.
Fleming died in the early hours of New Year’s Day after being struck by a vehicle while on foot patrol, an incident that also critically injured Senior Sergeant Adam Ramsay and left four others hurt, including two civilians.
Tasker has pleaded not guilty to six charges, including murder, attempted murder, and dangerous driving, but admitted driving while disqualified and over the legal alcohol limit.
His name suppression was lifted in the High Court at Wellington, and a provisional trial date is set for May 2026.
I like stories. But I prefer to hear the beginning of the story to the end, and not just the last page.
What have the police done to this man to make him so savagely violent?
