Police have arrested a 42-year-old man after a frightening series of incidents in Papatoetoe, where he allegedly threatened multiple people with a speargun before stealing a vehicle.
The ordeal began just before midday when the man reportedly tried to force his way into a home on Wyllie Road but fled after failing to open the front door. Senior Sergeant Steve Albrey says the offender then approached a woman reversing from her driveway and pointed a speargun at her, but she managed to lock her doors and escape unharmed.
Police were called as the man moved on to Hillcrest Road, where he allegedly confronted an elderly driver, demanded his keys, and again pointed the speargun before taking the victim’s vehicle and fleeing toward Manukau.
The Eagle helicopter quickly located the stolen car on Cavendish Drive and monitored the man’s movements, even witnessing him discard the weapon from the window. Officers on the ground recovered the speargun and continued tracking the vehicle.
The pursuit ended on Beatty Avenue in Manurewa after Police deployed spikes, bringing the car to a stop and taking the man into custody.
Albrey praised responding officers for preventing further harm. The arrested man is due to appear in the Manukau District Court tomorrow facing charges of aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated robbery.
Can we please not concentrate and waste our attention on such hapless deranged individuals but report on the real deranged individuals wrecking havoc on Godzone?
Put him on the Island in the middle of Cook Strait then he can spear fish to his hearts content
Maybe some concrete lined waders?
The government will have to crack down on spear-guns.
Yes and then kitchen knives, axes and pointy sharp things in general, just like Victoria Australia’s clown show, state government.
Be careful when catching a falling knife
