A Matamata College student has died after being struck by a train near the school around 3:15 pm.
Emergency services, including an ambulance, two helicopters, and a rapid response vehicle, responded to the scene, but the female victim succumbed to her injuries.
Police confirmed her death and expressed condolences to her family, who are receiving support.
Authorities are conducting inquiries on behalf of the Coroner, and WorkSafe has been notified.
Witnesses to the incident at the College Street and Firth Street intersection are urged to come forward. The area was temporarily closed but reopened by 7 pm.
