North Island town opposes fast-food giants Burger King and Starbucks

Tirau news

Tīrau is battling against the proposed establishment of Burger King and Starbucks drive-thru restaurants on its main street.

The application for the fast-food outlets is set for a spot between Tīrau Primary School and the Tīrau Community Church, requiring consent due to its current residential zoning. Local resident Geoff Poole, who has lived in Tīrau for over 20 years, is leading the opposition, telling state media that the town has long aimed to maintain its rural charm with specialized cafes and local businesses. Many locals share Poole’s concerns, with 80 to 90 percent opposing the fast-food proposal said Poole, fearing it will disrupt the town’s unique atmosphere and negatively impact existing eateries.

The proposed location has sparked particular concern, as it sits between a school and a church, with potential operational hours from early morning until late at night.

Poole argues that the presence of these large chains would not only challenge local businesses, which have just recovered from the pandemic but also fail to add value to the town’s character.

He believes the fast-food outlets would likely result in a net job loss rather than economic growth. The South Waikato District Council is accepting public submissions on the proposal until 26 July, with many locals rallying to voice their opposition.

    • Amen to that.

Haven’t touched BK since they casually admitted their burgers were full of Oestrogen in 2017.

Why?! Why are burgers packed with oestrogen, what possible reason could there be?

      Don’t know 🤷

They never bothered to give a reason. Slow acting poison indeed, probably full of MRNA too.

      AVOID ALL THESE COMPANIES

    • It’s Tīrau and yes well worth a visit and known for their cool little shops and cafes and corrugated iron signs and buildings.

  2. Good on you Tīrau. No one needs that poison junk. Why ruin a lovely little town with these horrid places?

Haven’t eaten any of that crap for 10 years after I woke up to the fact about ‘fast’ food

  3. Top town Tirau.
The infestation of these globalist parasite psyop toxic food peddlars must be recognised as a major health disaster for our peoples.
All the mcshit diabetes and coke obesity is killing NZers faster than the zionist bioweapon death shots.

  4. No doubt Tirau will now be spared the swathe of roadside rubbish associated to every one of these psyop toxic food dealer shops.
Profitting billions from killing our peoples and polluting our lands with their forever rubbish.
Utterly criminal businesses and permitted to operate by utter bought off carreer criminals.

  5. Well done, what is disgusting about any high street in the UK is they’re all the same crappy stores, there’s nothing original in any town. You visit historic villages unique you’d think and all the cafes and stores are carbon copies of the town before. It’s a real let down. Cheap and nasty. Tirau, you don’t want that. Stick to your guns.

  6. Walmart was the small town killer in the US. Wiped out local hardware, grocery stores, sporting goods stores etc.
Chain restaurants do damage as well.

  7. Translated for the ” food industry” 40 years ago. Since, i buy veg, meat and plain dairy and cook myself. Did not want to poison my kids or myself
    And it tastes much better.
