Pak N Save Manukau is conducting a review after a security guard allegedly attempted to extort a customer by falsely accusing her of theft.
The woman, who requested anonymity, told state media she was stopped at self-checkout and told she had failed to scan two bottles of moisturiser.
The guard then demanded a $395 fine, threatening police involvement if she refused to pay.
After multiple requests, CCTV footage confirmed she had indeed scanned the items, proving her innocence.
The woman has since filed complaints with Pak N Save, Foodstuffs, and the police. P
ak N Save apologised and stated they are taking the incident seriously, launching a review to prevent similar occurrences.
Paknsave then get extorted, the corporates new business model.
Stick Man will soon discover that ‘Self Check-Out’ is not going to be used so much anymore…
I always go thru a manned check-out line, as it insures a proper business transactions, direct consumer input to the Check-Out Operator, and insures that the Check-Out Operator will have a job without losing the same to Self-Check-Out or robotic automation under A.I..
Always deal directly with a human!
Hope the woman sues…!
Import the 3rd world, become the 3rd world 🤷🏼♂️
These kind of “on the spot” fines (AKA extortion and bribery) are pretty common in South Africa and elsewhere.
Certainly an innovative idea
Is this security guard also an immigrant?
I want to know more about him.
