Thousands of dollars raised by New Zealanders for families in Gaza are being withheld by PayPal, with no explanation provided.
NZ writer known as ‘Emily Writes’ launched a crowdfunding campaign, “Aotearoa to Gaza Mutual Aid,” which raised over $8,000 in 24 hours via Ko-Fi. However, when she attempted to transfer the funds to Palestinians in need, PayPal deactivated her account and froze the funds for 180 days.
Writes told state-funded media she believes the move was politically motivated, citing similar cases involving Palestinian aid. Despite repeated attempts, PayPal has not explained its actions or responded to media inquiries.
