Investigation into crash in Remuera overnight

A man remains in critical condition following a serious crash in Remuera last night.

The incident occurred at a roadworks site on Victoria Avenue and Police were advised at 10.18pm.

A truck has rolled and collided with a pedestrian on site.

The pedestrian remains in Auckland City Hospital after sustaining critical injuries in the incident.

Immediately after the crash, the truck has left the scene but Police have since located the vehicle and driver in the Papatoetoe area.

An investigation into the incident is now underway.

Fatal Fire, Toanui Street, Burnham

Together with Fire Investigators from Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Police have been conducting a scene examination at the address to determine the cause of the fire.

This work is ongoing, and staff will returned to the scene today.

The body of the deceased was removed from the property yesterday and will undergo a formal identification process which is expected to take some time.

Police have referred the death to the Coroner.

‘Police extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased who we are providing support to and will continue to keep updated on the investigation.’

Incident in Timaru

A man has appeared in Timaru District Court yesterday in relation to an incident on Coonoor Road last week.

Police were called to the property about 5:20pm on Saturday to discover a person had been seriously injured.

Officers last night arrested a 33-year-old man, who is facing charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawfully possessing a pistol, assault with intent to rob, and threatening to kill.

He is expected to reappear in court on Tuesday 14 May.
