A routine bail check in Invercargill turned into a significant drug bust early Friday morning, resulting in the arrest of three men and the seizure of drugs, cash, and weapons.
Police officers were conducting the check shortly after midnight when they were greeted at the door by a strong smell of cannabis. Acting on this, officers conducted a warrantless search under the Search and Surveillance Act 2012.
Inside the property police found drug paraphernalia, a knuckleduster, small amounts of cannabis and methamphetamine, and approximately $12,000 in cash.
Inspector Mike Bowman, Southland Area Commander, praised the officers’ work, noting that the arrests included two gang members and a gang prospect.
“This was a routine visit that turned into a major result. It’s a strong reminder that police are committed to holding offenders to account,” he said. The arrested men, aged 28, 29, and 45, now face charges related to drugs, weapons, and driving offences, with further investigations ongoing.
