Authorities have launched an urgent search for a fisherman who was reported missing at Piha Beach early this afternoon.
Police were alerted at approximately 1:50 p.m. after reports that the man, who had been fishing off rocks at the southern end of the beach, fell into the water and could not be accounted for.
An aerial search has already been conducted by the Police Eagle helicopter, alongside efforts from Surf Lifesaving New Zealand teams. Despite these efforts, the man remains missing, and the search continues.
The missing fisherman is described as being of Asian descent and was reportedly wearing a lifejacket at the time of the incident.
Police are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in identifying the man or provide clues as to his whereabouts.
