Speed humps spark criticism as residents complain of “over the top” speed control

The abundance of speed humps in the Auckland suburb of Milldale has drawn strong criticism, with the suburb’s marketing consultant Warren Frogley blaming “nut jobs” at Auckland Transport for making driving “as crappy as possible.”

AT, however, says the developer Fulton Hogan is responsible for most of the raised tables, though the agency did request some for pedestrian and cycle crossings under the suburb’s 30km/h design.

Speaking to legacy media residents report navigating 22 humps over just 1.8km, while a cyclist counted more than 80 on a single loop, dubbing the area “Speedhump City.”

Some residents argue the measures improve safety for children and cyclists, but others say the sheer number is excessive, with the AA noting speed humps are valuable where pedestrian activity is high.

  1. Totally ridiculous how many of these things there are in New Zealand. Worse still, they are badly designed and can easily damage your car. Go to even big nations like China with arguably far more pedestrians and you don’t see anywhere near this volume. Its all part of the sad, moronic woke nonsense that has infected this country. Afraid of everything, even hurty words.
