Two Auckland early childhood teachers have been found guilty of serious misconduct after a child was left locked in a preschool van for 80 minutes following a trip, in what the Teachers’ Disciplinary Tribunal described as a miscommunication that could have turned fatal.
Mee Sung (Michelle) Choi and Rochelle Gray failed to carry out a roll check and did not clearly communicate about children still in the vehicle, leading to one child being left asleep in the back seat while the van was moved, locked and unattended; the child was later discovered screaming by a parent.
The tribunal ruled the incident was a one-off lapse, noting both teachers showed remorse, cooperated fully, and have since undertaken further training, but issued formal censure.
….Pre-School and Daycare ‘Teachers’ being too self-absorbed with their Dunning-Kruger personalities and / or being distracted!
A formal censure is an official, public reprimand or strong condemnation passed by a governing body, committee, or organization against a member, official, or entity for misconduct. It acts as a serious disciplinary measure—falling short of expulsion—designed to officially record disapproval of unethical behavior or actions. That “slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket” wouldn’t wash with me if I were that child’s parent.
To all the goody-two-shoes: Lucky you if you never failed.
Yes, sh*t does happen, accidents do happen, and yes, that could have been your infant or your daughter teacher.
You lost your cool or responsibility before, don’t liy to us, and just because your failure did not eventuate into an accident or was not found out, you are not better. Give these people a break! U think they were out to murder? What has this society devolved to? FFS!!!
