Teachers’ union may vote on strike after pay offer rejected

NZEI strike news

The Educational Institute (NZEI/Te Riu Roa) is considering whether to ballot members on industrial action after two weeks of stop-work meetings with primary teachers, principals, support staff, and learning support staff.

NZEI negotiator Liam Rutherford told state-funded legacy media there was clear support for taking action, with members voicing anger at the government’s pay offers, which included three 1 percent increases over three years for teachers and minimal hourly rises for support staff.

The Public Service Commission confirmed bargaining is ongoing. The move follows last month’s strike by secondary teachers over stalled negotiations.

  1. considering all of the loony leftist rubbish teachers on the whole seem to teach these days maybe they should just end up unemployed.

HOME SCHOOL is the only Answer.

  2. Teachers should go on strike like during lock down. When they stayed at home, on full pay, while the rest of us got $600/week.
Oh, I forgot, strike means no pay?
