A 19-year-old man is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court today following a firearms-related incident in Hornby that left one person injured.

Police were called to Amyes Road shortly after 6.30pm yesterday after receiving multiple reports of a man being chased by several others, with one person allegedly carrying a firearm. Several vehicles were also seen fleeing the area around the same time.

Officers later went to hospital, where one person was found to have a suspected gunshot wound. Police say the injury is not considered life-threatening. Several other people were also spoken to at the hospital as enquiries continued.

As part of the investigation, police identified another location of interest, with scene guards remaining in place there and on Amyes Road. A visible police presence will continue in both areas while officers work to establish exactly what occurred.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at a property on Amyes Road last night. He has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and is scheduled to appear in court today.

Detective Sergeant Luke Vaughan said police are still piecing together events and are asking anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to come forward.

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police on 105 and quote file number 251225/8572.

    • Nah, don’t worry – it’s total fake news.

The article says a “firearm incident”, but that’s impossible because we have gun laws in New Zealand.

      And gun laws ALWAYS work.

      ALWAYS 😊
