More than 26,000 illegal small boat migrants have crossed the English Channel into the UK so far this year, with 435 arrivals on Saturday alone following a brief improvement in weather conditions.
This brings the total since the UK-France returns deal began this week to 838, though only around 50 migrants per week are expected to be returned under the scheme.
The 2025 total so far—26,274—is significantly higher than the 17,638 arrivals at the same point last year.
