The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced a major policy shift by winding down all mRNA vaccine development under the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), cancelling 22 projects valued at nearly USD $500 million.
Following a comprehensive scientific review, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. stated that mRNA vaccines have failed to provide effective protection against upper respiratory infections like COVID-19 and influenza. Contracts with institutions such as Emory University, Tiba Biotech, and several pharmaceutical companies will be terminated or de-scoped.
The agency will redirect funding toward “safer, more robust” vaccine technologies, including whole-virus platforms, while continuing to support vaccine development that is transparent, effective, and backed by strong safety records.

That does not mean it wont be pursued privately and for those thinking the US had said bye bye to the WHO, that’s a;so misleading. They have left the door open for WHO interference on bird flu, so expect a outbreak sometime in the future.
