Watch: Hamilton dairy worker loses fingers in armed robbery

A shop worker is lucky to be alive after an armed attack this morning at the Irvine Street dairy in Hamilton.

Four young males pulled up in a car and entered the dairy. One charged in wielding a large machete knife and confronted the worker. The other three looted the store of tobacco and cigarette products. A member of the public was assaulted outside the store before they made their getaway.

The store worker lost two fingers in the attack. A panic button and fog cannon were installed in the shop but the worker had no time to activate them. Police say they are following leads in the inquiry.
