Joseph Jacob Moncarz, 51, a former school principal is on trial in Auckland for charges he sexually abused a female student under the age of 12.

A Crown witness claimed Moncarz admitted the offending during a conversation in the days following an incident at the school where the victim had told her she had been abused by Moncarz. The witness met Moncarz in a park at the latter’s request where he admitted the victim’s allegations and that he had been ‘aroused’ by the touching. The next day she called him and said she was going to the police. She encouraged him to go with her and confess. That did not evenuate and she never spoke to him again. Moncarz’s lawyer said his client would testify later in the trial to show the witness was lying, and that the evidence of the victim wasn’t true.
