Two men accused of attempting to burgle a commercial property in New Lynn were arrested overnight after a security guard alerted Police and provided crucial information.
Police were called to a business on Portage Road at around 12.40am following a report of suspicious activity at the premises. Acting Inspector Nick Salter, Acting Waitematā West Area Prevention Manager, said officers were told two people appeared to be involved, with one acting as a lookout while the other entered the building.
The security guard was able to give Police a clear description of the suspects and the vehicle they were using. After leaving the scene, the pair were located a short time later at a nearby service station, where they were stopped by officers and arrested without incident.
Salter praised the actions of the security guard, saying the prompt report allowed Police to respond quickly and prevent further offending.
Police reiterated their message that burglary will not be tolerated and that those responsible will be held accountable.
A 42-year-old man has been charged with burglary and driving while disqualified and is due to appear in the Waitākere District Court today. A second man, aged 35, has also been charged with burglary and will appear in court today.
