The Black Caps hold a narrow edge after a tense second day of the Wellington test, posting 278 for nine in reply to the West Indies’ 205 before reducing the tourists to 32 for two at stumps.
New Zealand’s innings fluctuated throughout the day, with Devon Conway’s 60, Kane Williamson’s 37 and debutant Mitch Hay’s 61 providing the bulk of the runs despite steady West Indies breakthroughs, including Kemar Roach’s key strikes.
A late 16-run last-wicket stand pushed the lead to 73, while injuries kept Blair Tickner off the field.
In their second innings, the West Indies lost John Campbell and Anderson Phillip early, leaving them 41 runs behind heading into day three of a series locked 0–0 after the Christchurch draw.
