Black Caps rock England but suffer collapse at Lord’s

New Zealand looked in control after bowling England out for just 140 on the opening day of the first Test at Lord’s, with returning pace bowler Kyle Jamieson claiming five wickets in testing conditions.

However, the Black Caps then endured a dramatic batting collapse as England seamer Ollie Robinson struck three times in his first over, removing Devon Conway, Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra to leave New Zealand reeling. Robinson finished with four wickets as the visitors slumped to 61-6 at stumps, still trailing by 79 runs.

Despite England’s modest first-innings total, a late fightback led by Robinson and a damaging spell from the home attack turned the match firmly in England’s favour after a day dominated by bowlers and difficult batting conditions.
