Brunson leads Knicks comeback to take NBA finals opener

The New York Knicks rallied from a 14-point third-quarter deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, with Jalen Brunson scoring 30 points, including 13 in the final quarter.

Karl-Anthony Towns added 18 points and 12 rebounds, while OG Anunoby scored 17 points, 12 of them in the fourth period, as New York extended its playoff winning streak to 12 games.

The Knicks closed the contest on an 11-0 run, capitalising on San Antonio’s late struggles, with the Spurs shooting poorly and committing five fourth-quarter turnovers. Victor Wembanyama led San Antonio with 26 points and 12 rebounds, but the hosts failed to score in the final two minutes as New York seized a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series.
