A record-breaking 199-run partnership between Mark Chapman (132) and Daryl Mitchell (75) led a new-look Black Caps side to a convincing 73-run victory over Pakistan in the opening ODI at McLean Park, Napier.
After struggling early at 50/3, the pair’s propelled New Zealand to 344/9.
Debutant Muhammad Abbas added a brisk 50 from 26 balls.
Pakistan’s chase showed promise with Babar Azam’s 78 and a solid opening stand of 83, but a late collapse of six wickets for 22 runs dashed their hopes, leaving them all out well short of the target.
Nathan Smith starred with the ball, claiming 4/60 to secure the win.
