The Dolphins strengthened their premiership credentials with a commanding 40-14 victory over the Cowboys in Townsville, extending their winning streak to five matches and climbing to fifth on the NRL ladder.
Despite North Queensland’s strong start and the occasion of Coen Hess’ 200th NRL appearance, the visitors proved too powerful, crossing for seven tries in an impressive all-round display.
Selwyn Cobbo starred with a remarkable 321 running metres and two tries, while Kodi Nikorima, Connelly Lemuelu and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki consistently troubled the Cowboys’ defence. After taking a 16-10 lead into halftime, the Dolphins pulled away in the second half through tries to Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Kurt Donoghoe, Cobbo and Tom Flegler.
The Cowboys managed only one second-half response, with centre Tom Chester a standout despite being placed on report for a high tackle on Cobbo.
