Richard Tutaki, a former New Zealand heavyweight boxing contender known as the “Tutaki Express Train,” has passed away at age 46, reportedly due to a heart attack.
With a 22-year career spanning 49 professional fights and 21 wins, Tutaki competed against top fighters like Shane Cameron and Joseph Parker.
Despite being a promising talent and securing titles like the New Zealand national and WBC Australasian Silver titles, his career faced setbacks, including being dropped from a 2012 title bout with Sonny Bill Williams due to legal issues.
The boxing community mourns his loss, with tributes from Boxing New Zealand and professional judge Benjamin Watt, who called Tutaki a respected figure in the South Pacific boxing scene.
