Former Australia rugby captain Rocky Elsom has been sentenced to five years in prison by a French court for forgery, use of forgery, and misuse of corporate assets during his tenure as president of French rugby club Narbonne from 2013 to 2016.
Elsom, convicted in absentia, denied the charges, calling the proceedings a “clear perversion of justice” and stated he was not informed of the court hearing.
An international warrant has been issued for his arrest, and he has been ordered to repay €700,000 (NZ$1.25 million).
Elsom, a former Wallabies captain and Leinster player, plans to appeal the decision.
