Warren Gatland’s second tenure as Wales head coach has ended by mutual agreement following a record-extending 14th consecutive defeat in the Six Nations against Italy.
Cardiff Rugby head coach Matt Sherratt will take over for the remaining three Six Nations matches as the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) seeks a permanent replacement before the summer tour to Japan.
Gatland, originally contracted until the 2027 World Cup, admitted the challenge of turning Wales’ fortunes around was daunting.
Despite his past successes, including multiple Grand Slams and World Cup semi-final appearances, the WRU deemed a change necessary.
