New Zealand Rugby has reported a $19.5 million loss for 2024, its third straight annual deficit, despite generating a record $285 million in revenue.
The loss was attributed to foreign exchange losses on sponsorship income and heavy investment—$38 million—into commercial growth, including $11.7 million into its media platform NZR+.
The collapse of a sponsorship deal with Ineos also impacted finances, though a new agreement with Toyota is expected to help.
NZR maintains a strong balance sheet, but leaders admit the union’s high-cost model is unsustainable and must be reformed for long-term viability.
