England will be without defender Jarell Quansah for Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway after FIFA imposed a two-match suspension following his red card for serious foul play in the 3-2 victory over Mexico.
The additional one-match ban means Quansah will also miss a potential semi-final, although he would be eligible for the final if England progress.
The Football Association raised concerns over the VAR review process, arguing the referee may have been influenced by slow-motion footage before seeing the incident at full speed, but tournament rules provide no avenue for appeal.
His absence creates a selection headache for Thomas Tuchel, although Reece James is expected to return from injury, while French referee Clément Turpin has been appointed to oversee the quarter-final.
Thierry Henry on Quansah tackle on the Mexico player and says he is a lucky guy if he get another Chance with England
“This is the most unnecessary tackle I have seen in a while. The Thomas Tuchel I know doesn’t support mediocrity it will be hard for him to get another chance… pic.twitter.com/Vg2lIKMXI5
