The US Open crowd was left shocked when a grown man snatched Kamil Majchrzak’s match-worn hat intended for a young fan after the Polish player’s upset win over ninth seed Karen Khachanov.
The incident, caught on camera, saw the child pleading for the hat back while the couple who took it laughed nervously, sparking outrage online with viewers condemning the act as “disgusting.”
Once footage surfaced, Majchrzak quickly took to Instagram, asking for help to find the boy, and within an hour was reunited with the young fan thanks to social media. The 29-year-old praised “the power of the internet” as he looked ahead to his fourth-round bid against qualifier Leandro Riedi.
PRO-TIP: If you’re the jerk who snatched Majchrzak’s cap out of the child’s hand I’d get out in front of this. Find out how to get the hat back to the kid and make a public apology. This won’t end well unless you make it right quickly. pic.twitter.com/DPRlkhTgKf
