Super League will expand from 12 to 14 teams starting in the 2025 season, marking the league’s first expansion since 2014.
The decision, made by member clubs, combines a club grading system and recommendations from an independent panel chaired by Lord Jonathan Caine.
The top 12 graded clubs at the end of 2025 will be joined by two additional clubs, provided they meet established criteria.
The expansion is part of the ongoing ‘Reimagining Rugby League’ initiative led by IMG and Rugby League Commercial, which assesses clubs on both on- and off-field performance rather than relying on traditional promotion and relegation.
