A Marcellin College student was hospitalised following a serious assault by approximately 10-15 teenagers from Māngere College.
The incident took place in a car park near Māngere Town Centre on Bader Drive. The victim was struck on the head with a bottle multiple times and then kicked and stomped while he was down.
The attack happened on Monday, February 12, after the victim got off a bus.
The victim’s mother appealed for peace on a Māngere community Facebook page, saying she did not want to see anyone further harmed.
The assault was witnessed by numerous students, with some recording the event, and bystanders, including a man who attempted to intervene but was met with hostility.
The police have confirmed their involvement and are investigating the incident, which included a small group of males not affiliated with the schools. The victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.
Both Māngere and Marcellin Colleges are actively cooperating with police to address the situation.
Community advocate Fitz of clothing brand ‘TwoSevenFive‘ told state-subsidised media outlet NZ Herald that he wanted to engage with Māngere College students to promote unity and understanding within the community, believing ‘shared experiences and struggles’ should transcend school affiliations.
