The BBC is allowing employees to work remotely if they are uncomfortable sharing facilities with transgender colleagues, as the corporation awaits formal government guidance following a Supreme Court ruling that defined sex under the Equality Act as biological.
The broadcaster continues to permit transgender individuals to use toilets “aligning with their gender identity”, maintaining that any policy changes will follow official direction.
While most BBC sites already have unisex or self-contained facilities, staff with concerns can consult managers or HR for arrangements, including temporary remote work.
Critics like Shadow Culture Secretary Nigel Huddleston argue this approach fuels a “stay-at-home culture,” noting that only a small fraction of BBC jobs now require full office attendance. The BBC insists it aims to “balance inclusion and respect for all staff” while ensuring future compliance once guidance is issued.

To pee or not to pee? Is that the question?
I’m shocked. I cant believe the BBC hasn’t already made all their toilets gender neutral.
Rules for thee, not for me.
Working from home sounds ideal, no nasty surprises in the bathroom…..
….or toilet.
