The Cook Islands government has declared a dengue fever outbreak in Rarotonga after confirming two new cases, bringing the total to seven.
In response authorities have initiated “Operation Namu25”, a coordinated national effort involving community clean-ups, mosquito control, and preventive measures to keep the adjacent islands dengue-free.
Local agencies and outer island communities are mobilising, with recent rain and humidity blamed for increased mosquito activity.
Health facilities remain on alert, and the World Health Organisation has been notified.
While no travel restrictions are in place, travellers are urged to take precautions.

Fancy that… the same Dengue Fever mosquitoes being studied at the recently set up Nelson Ports BSL 2 laboratory?
Antiviral drug Ivermectin has proven effectiveness against dengue virus type 2 (DENV-2) in Aedes albopictus.
Ivermectin discovered 50 years ago is utilized as human antiviral medicine by many developing countries because it is a cheap and effective.
So WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER VACCINE for Dengue Fever. Thank you very much.
Or the WHO sticking their nose in looking for an excuse to go ape sh*t fascist.
Just in time for the WHO Pandemic Agreement meeting in Switzerland this week.
Here we go the un-elected WHO, sniffing around again. Need a swatter for them, far more than a few mozzies.
I’d do a little wipe of Vicks vapor rub here and there to ward them off.
