A Florida woman who had lived in her neighbourhood for just two weeks has died after being attacked by two dogs that residents say had repeatedly escaped and frightened locals.
Jodi Cowan, 50, was walking her small dog shortly after midnight when the animals, named Max and Mako, allegedly broke free from their owner’s property and launched a violent attack.
Cowan’s partner rushed to help and called emergency services while attempting to drive the dogs away, but she later died from her injuries at a trauma centre.
Authorities say the small dog survived unharmed.
Investigators allege owner Linda Cutler was aware the dogs had a history of escaping and aggressive behaviour, including a previous biting incident.
Records show numerous complaints had been made about the animals over the past year. The dogs have been taken into custody and are set to be euthanised. Cutler, 29, has been arrested and remains in custody without bail while the case, which has shocked America, proceeds.
There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.
