Over 1,000 illegal small boat migrants crossed the English Channel in under 48 hours, marking a sharp escalation in the ongoing crisis.

Despite tougher French enforcement and UK government efforts to dismantle smuggling networks, nearly 600 migrants arrived on Saturday alone, bringing the annual total to nearly 18,400—almost 50% higher than the same period in 2024.

According to a report in GB News, Prime Minister Keir Starmer admitted the situation is “worsening”, while warning of potential visa restrictions for countries not cooperating on deportations.

The Home Office reaffirmed its commitment to border security and targeting people-smuggling gangs through international collaboration and tougher laws.
