A sentencing date has yet to be set.
The verdict was reached late yesterday after the jury deliberated for more than a week. It was the third time Hayne had faced a jury for the charge. He was sentenced to five years and nine months in 2021 but the conviction and sentence were overturned on appeal and a retrial ordered. The first trial in 2020 ended in a hung jury.
The charges relate to an incident in 2018 when Hayne visited the Newcastle home of a woman he met on social media.
Hayne was sued by a woman in California for sexual assault in 2015 in a civil lawsuit after police decided not to prosecute him. He reached an out-of-court settlement in that matter.
Following last night’s verdict Hayne was released on bail.
Hayne made a total of 214 appearances in the NRL between 2006 and 2018, playing for the Parramatta Eels and Gold Coast Titans, and was awarded 11 international caps for the Kangaroos.
