20-year-old Idaho man Wess Roley who once aspired to become a firefighter, fatally ambushed two firefighters and injured a third after deliberately starting a fire on Canfield Mountain to lure first responders.
Authorities say Roley opened fire with a high-powered rifle when firefighters arrived, reportedly after an altercation over his parked vehicle, which he had been living in.
Following an hours-long manhunt involving hundreds of law enforcement personnel, Roley was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The motive remains unclear, though his grandfather suggested possible rejection from the firefighting community.
Authorities report that Wess Roley, a 20-year-suspect allegedly born in Russia and previously residing in NY and Florida, and possibly worked in Arizona, is linked to the attack on firefighters and first responders in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
